Rim joist or stud?
« on: June 03, 2010, 12:56:10 PM »
I have a 2 storey home, no obstructions above window to mount awning.  Since ideal is 9' install height per instructions, would a rim joist bracket be better?  I'm thinking not becase it may only be a single joist and only 1.5" thick.  How much "meat" should the Lag bolt bite into without going through?

We always try to hit the rim joist on 2 story homes. You get a better pitch on the awning. 1 1/2 is plenty for the lag bolts.
