Soffit Mounts? Do you have to take down the Soffit?

I only have 4" from the top of my patio door to my eve. I have vinyl soffit could I just mount the bracket to the rafter tail?

Decker you do have to take down your soffit. If it vinyl soffit it will be much easier. Do not worry about bending down the lip on the fascia to get the soffit down the awning will cover it up. Make sure when you take it down you mark where the soffit seams are (mark everyone). You do not want to put a 2X4 brace there. Mount the 2X4 1/2 inch lower then your fascia so that when you put the mounting bracket on it does not bow your soffit. We try to use 2X4 joist hangers to secure the board to the house. If possible try to place the board next to the rafter tail and secure the front of the board to it.
